Something that most people don’t realize is that backsplash tiling actually helps prevent the walls behind them from getting stains, water damage, and unwanted pests. By installing the tile, you will be sealing the bare wall behind it which will no longer be at risk of mold, stains, mildew, termites, and moisture. This is extremely important given that backsplashes are primarily used in kitchens and bathrooms, which happen to be the most at risk for these possible damages.

Besides the beauty of the style, many people love having backsplashes because it makes cleaning so easy, so we’ve rounded up the best tips and tricks to keep your backsplash tile clean, so you don’t have to worry about it! These 3 different cleaning tips depend on just how dirty your backsplash is, 1 being an easy clean, and 3 being a little tougher:

1. Soap & Water - Like many things in your kitchen, soap and water could be the perfect & gentle trick when it comes to breaking up the grease and easy to wipe off stains. Using warm water and a sponge, your tiles will be back to perfect in no time!

2. Vinegar, Baking Soda, and Lemon Juice - This basic mix gets rid of grease, soap scum, and hard to scrub off stains. These acidic ingredients are perfect for any grout and tile build up. Using one part lemon juice, one part vinegar, and two parts baking soda the grease will be gone before you know it! With this process, you can use a bristle sponge or a toothbrush for the grout. *Tip: Once your tile grout is dry you can apply one or two coats of a silicone-based grout sealer to protect it and give it a long-lasting shine.

3. Bleach - Although it is rare, your tile can grow mold and mildew. A quick remedy to that problem is bleach, but we suggest diluting it with some water to make it a little less potent. It’s the perfect fix for mold, mildew, and discolored backsplashes.

Creating your design and adding your pick of unique backsplash tiles is a personal touch that can be a key feature in any beautiful home.
